Temples Of India-2

SRI BALA BALAJI TEMPLE-APPANA PALLE-1

SRI BALA BALAJI TEMPLE-APPANA PALLE

The Bala Balaji Devasthanam or Temple at Appana Palle or Appana Pally is perhaps not so famous but a very ancient site. It is a temple of Lord Balaji or Lord Venkateshwara. Bala Means child. Here Lord Balaji is worshipped in the form of a child.

This is popularly known as Konaseema Tirupathi. Konaseema -kona means corner seema means region -the rich delta region of East Godavari District surrounded by River Godavari  and Bay of Bengal. It is full of tributaries and aqua ducts. The silt soil brought in by the River Godavari and its tributaries makes the region very fertile. One can find acres and acres of lush green Paddy and Sugar Cane fields, Coconut, Cashew, Mango and Plantain Orchards. The region has a rich cultural heritage with many famous laureates-Vedic scholars, astrologers, poets, musicians, philanthropists etc. There are many ancient and well known and not so well known temples in this region. My humble attempt is to introduce you to as many such places as I can an provide you with as much information as I can to the best of my knowledge.

One of these temples is that of Sri Bala Balaji Temple at Appana Palle.

LOCATION

APPANA PALLE is a small village in Mamidi Kuduru Mandalam of East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. Its situated on the banks of River Vainateya a tributary of River Godvari.
                                     River Vaineteya-Tributory of Godavari

The legend of how Appana Pally got its name:

Appana Palle was originally known as Arpana Palle. Arpana means sacrifice and Palle means a place or village. The meaning of Arpana Palle is a place where a sacrifice was made.

Now who made the sacrifice and why? For that we need to go into very ancient times. Read on.....

Temples Of India-1

Introduction

I have always been dreaming to do some posts on Temples of India. India has such an ancient and rich culture, spiritual knowledge and had attracted local as well as non locals. Hinduism is a good example of unity in diversity. After all in which religion do you see 3 crore and odd Gods and Goddesses being followed or worshipped?

We have so many temples across the country, some very ancient, some known for their architectural splendour, some for the miracles of the deities or Gods and Goddess and so much more.

I was lucky enough to visit very few of these famous temples and some not so famous. I want to share my experiences with all of you while providing as much information about these temples and places as I can.

So keep a watch on my blog.....I am going to do a series of posts on these temples

Devotional Songs

Ayyappa Bhajans

Lord Ayyappa is one of the most popular deities in South India. His temple is situated at Sabarimala in Kerala. The songs sung in his praise are generally very fast paced. But here is one which I love the most. This is a lullaby sung to the Lord before putting him to sleep in Sabarimala or other Ayyappa temples. This is very soft and slow paced.

Slokas -Stotras-Mantras-2

Laksmana, Anjaneya sametha Lord Sri Rama and Sita Devi

STOTRA:

The word Stotra (pronounced as Sthotra) is a Sanskrit word derived from the word Sthuti- meaning praise. It is an ode or hymn of praise, praising the God or Goddess or the deity. Unlike other forms of devotional hymns and verses, these do not have any strict grammatical rules or meter for composing or for chanting or singing.

These are rhythmically composed or written and have to be chanted aloud. These have been written by great sages for the benefit of mankind. The energy created by chanting these stotras loudly, does away any misfortunes or any problems in life, brings, peace, happiness, prosperity etc. These help us in developing our concentration and lead us towards the spiritual path.

These are meant for common folk for using in daily life. Hence there are no strict do and donts or rules and regulations for chanting of these hymns. So they are very popular form of devotional literature as they are easily accessible to one and all.

These include Ashtotrams (108) or Sahasranamama (1000 names of the God or Goddess). They can be in the form of verse or in the form of just names read one after the other. While doing so the God or Goddess is worshipped with vermilion, turmeric, sandal wood powder, flowers etc.

The most popular ones are the Vichnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, various Ashtotrams and Sahara namams
